Ready? Here we go!

The first stop is the Pietra di Bismantova (literally Stone of Bismantova), which is about 40 kilometres from our agriturismo. It is almost impossible not to have heard of it. A sacred and almost magical mountain, it appears as an enormous rocky cliff, on top of which lies a vast grassy plateau. It is the remnant of a more extensive sandstone bank that has been dismantled by erosive processes over time. Over the centuries it has amazed wayfarers and pilgrims. Even Dante, the greatest poet Italy has ever had, was so struck by it that he cited it in verses 26 and 27 of the 4th Canto of Purgatory. Characterised by very different plant environments, it is populated by wild animals such as wild boar, roe deer, hares, hedgehogs and birds of prey. A vast panorama can be enjoyed from the summit plateau, while at the foot of the cliff stands a hermitage, which preserves numerous frescoes dating back to the 15th century, including a valuable image of the Madonna and Child, the work of Emilian masters. The area around the Pietra di Bismantova offers many hiking trails to explore this magnificent natural environment. There are also numerous climbing routes and two vie ferrate.

The second stop is Mount Cusna (2120 metres high), the largest peak in the Reggio Emilia Apennines and the second in the entire northern Apennines after Mount Cimone. Its profile is particularly fascinating, comparable to the head of a giant looking towards the sky. It forms an imposing mountain chain together with Sasso del Morto and Monte La Piella, clearly visible from the Po Valley. Situated just over 60 kilometres from our agriturismo, it is particularly interesting from a naturalistic point of view and has numerous paths (with different starting points and levels of difficulty). In general, to reach the summit (from which there is a priceless view) the minimum time required is about 3 hours each way. On the slopes of Cusna is also the Febbio ski resort, whose ski lifts allow you to reach the ridge at an altitude of 2000 metres. Among the countless things to see, the suggestive Lavacchiello waterfalls stand out, offering a beautiful spectacle of nature during the snowmelt season.

Finally, the last day is devoted to some healthy fun in the midst of nature. The third and final stop on the itinerary is the Cerwood Adventure Park, located about 50 kilometres from our farmhouse. Here, children become grown-ups and adults become children again. The park has no fewer than 27 adventure trails, with varying degrees of difficulty, suspended among centuries-old beech trees. They are divided into Baby and Junior Adventure Trails (only accessible for those who are at least 1 m tall) and Adventure Trails for Kids & Adults (only accessible for those who are at least 1.40 m tall). But it doesn’t end there! The activities at Cerwood Park are many and all different: archery, minigolf, play areas for the little ones to have fun, exciting dinghy rides, jumping in the air and much more. In addition, there is also the bar-restaurant ‘La Locanda di Cerwood’ and picnic areas with benches and barbecues.

Photo gallery ©
