For trekking and mountain biking enthusiasts a few kilometers from our farmhouse is the Ca’ del Vento Ring, one of the best-known nature trails in the first hills of Reggio Emilia. The trail follows CAI route 614 (identified by red-and-white hiking signs) and is passable even with children, considering the various stops on meadows and green areas. The rural landscape is broken only by woods and meadows where it is easy to encounter deer, hares and squirrels. The area traversed boasts the presence of special habitats so much so that it has earned recognition as a Site of Community Importance.

ITINERARY

Borzano – Casa Luisa – Bicocca – C.Speranza – M.Scaletta – Giaietto – S. Margherita – Bellavista – Borzano

The route starts from the small rural village of Borzano, a hamlet in the municipality of Albinea. From the village, the signs to follow the route are always clear (white/red trail markers). Leaving the center of Borzano, the slow climb that leads to the summit begins. The road surface for a first stretch paved then becomes gravel. It climbs without interruption on gentle slopes passing by some rural dwellings. The route then continues through the woods until it reaches the highest part of the trail, the ridge, from which it is possible to admire a truly breathtaking panoramic view of the Reggio Emilia Apennines. From the ridge begins the descent that leads back to Borzano, the starting point of the trail.

DESCRIPTION

Along the itinerary there are several points of naturalistic and historical interest. Rocky outcrops, particularly the Messinian Gypsums, are encountered side by side with outcrops of a clayey nature. The area is characterized by natural cavities, including the Tana della Mussina, which represents one of the most important monuments of the Aeneolithic age (3rd millennium B.C.), a period characterized by the first use of the metal, copper. Interesting archaeological artifacts have been found inside. Several legends hover around the site that want the lair inhabited by the Mussina, a historical character somewhere between a sorceress and a witch. Another site of considerable interest near the itinerary is the medieval Castle of Borzano, of which only remains can be found today. This place represents an important historical matildic reference.
