Are you lovers of autumn? Here we offer you a beautiful itinerary among the flavours and spectacles of nature in the province of Modena.

The first stop is Villa Gandini Park in Formigine. Located just over fifteen kilometres from our farmhouse, it is dedicated to the resistance against the Nazi-Fascist invasion. The green bucolic setting surrounding the historic Villa Gandini (formerly Villa Aggazzotti) includes almost 500 trees, among which two Ginkgo Biloba trees stand out (on the southern side of the villa). These monumental trees, native to China, take on a colour in autumn that leaves you literally speechless: the leaves turn a bright gold that illuminates even the gloomiest days. You are completely immersed in a golden landscape, so much so that it feels like you have silently entered a work of art. The park also features several ponds where you can observe numerous species of aquatic fauna such as swans, ducks, turtles and fish.

After a stroll in the surrounding area, head to another unmissable autumn destination in Modena: the Lambrusco Grasparossa hills, between Levizzano and Castelvetro di Modena. In autumn, the vineyards offer a wonderful display of colour thanks to the foliage that lights up the leaves of the vines in the weeks following the harvest. The ROSSO GRASPA Museum of Wine and Rural Society is dedicated to Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro. Housed in the medieval Castle of Levizzano Rangone, it brings together numerous exhibits that illustrate in a pleasant and captivating way the social dynamics and good agricultural practices of rural society between the two world wars (tools, woodworking instruments, winemaking utensils, photographs and drawings). . We also recommend the Grape and Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro Festival, held every year on the third and fourth weekends of September. The programme includes tastings, music, art, entertainment and educational activities.

Finally, the last stop is Lago della Ninfa in Sestola, a small enchanted lake at an altitude of 1,500 metres. It is surrounded by beech and coniferous forests that turn various colours in autumn: from intense yellow to orange or red, the transformations are rapid, even from one day to the next. To fully appreciate its beauty, we recommend a walk along the path that leads from Pian del Falco to the lake. We would also like to point out that in autumn, usually on the third weekend of October, Fanano (a small town about 10 kilometres from Lake Ninfa) hosts ‘Ste Sroden, a festival of autumn flavours and traditions. During the event, local restaurants offer seasonal dishes based on mushrooms, chestnuts, pumpkin and much more.
